Red Wine
Mas de la Tour Merlot Domaine Bonfils
Fabulous every day drinking wine.
Cabernet Sauvignon Domaine de Valensac
Good solid, ripe Cabernet from the Languedoc.
The Red Mullet Syra/Grenache/Mourvedre Pikes Polish Hill River
A delicious blend of Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvedre and Tempranillo, with ripe, savoury fruit which makes for very easy drinking.
Rey Don Garcia Rioja Crianza Bodegas Ruconia
Modern in its execution, yet with traditional values, this is a fruit led Rioja with crisp flavours and soft hints of oak. It is a remarkably good wine for the price offering far greater value and quality than many of the more famous wines from the region. The 2005 is a fabulous vintage, packed with fruit and immensely attractive.
Côtes du Rhône Rouge la Dame Rousse Domaine de la Mordorée
Bright and juicy with fabulously crunchy ripe Grenache fruit, soft tannins and warm spice. Quite delicious to drink in its youth but looks like it should evolve well over a year or two.
Château du Maine Graves
A fabulous effort in this great vintage. Deep in colour, scented with rich berry fruit, full and persistent in the mouth with very fine tannins, this has remarkable length too. Good to drink now, but will age well over five years and more.
Dombeya Boulder Road Shiraz Haskell Vineyards SA
Aged fifteen months in oak, this is a richly textured Shiraz with spicy, sweet black fruit and chocolate flavours, concentrated and spicy on the long finish.
Gladstone Vineyard Pinot Noir NZ
This extremely well-priced and powerful example of North Island Kiwi Pinot Noir from Gladstone, located on the old riverbed terrace of the Ruamahanga River. Displays a vivid fraise du bois perfume and a polished veneer of vanilla oak while the textured rich raspberry and mulberry fruitiness leaves satisfying, lingering traces of cherries and spice on the palate. Turkey and game are excellent partners.
