Excitement is rising at The London Kitchen Headquarters as we eagerly anticipate the most wonderful time of the year. When we’re not putting the finishing touches on our indulgent festive menus for Christmas parties, we’re getting into the spirit by visiting the UK’s finest Christmas markets. We can’t get enough of those adorable wooden chalets, unique handmade gifts, twinkling Christmas lights and the rich, enticing scent of mulled wine – not to mention a few foodie finds we’ve encountered on our travels!

These are our 10 favourites for 2013:

Christmas at Kew, Kew Gardens, London
Until 4th January

It’s all family-friendly at Kew, where you’ll find a Victorian carousel, vintage rides, Santa’s grotto and plenty of boutique gift stalls for that all-important Christmas shopping. There’ll also be foodie treats (our favourite) and music.

Frankfurt Christmas Market, Birmingham
Until 22nd December

People travel from far and wide to visit Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market, and it’s easy to see why. It’s now the largest outdoor market in the country – festive atmosphere doesn’t get better than that.

Christmas Continental Market, Belfast
Until 22nd December

Held in the shadow of Belfast’s City Hall, the Christmas Continental Market creates a village setting in the heart of the action. Wander amongst the wintry stalls as you sample the finest Belgian chocolates and scrumptious French tarts.

Crafty Fox Christmas Market, Peckham, London
Saturday 14th December

If you’re looking for something with a bit of a creative twist head on down to Peckham, where 70 hand-picked designers and craftsmen (and women) will be showing off their handmade wintry wares. You can even join in the workshops.

Bath Christmas Market, Bath
Until 15th December

Bath has to be one of the country’s most luxurious cities, and we hear it’s now becoming known as the ‘Christmas Capital of the West’. The city’s quaint streets are being transformed into a Christmas shopper’s heaven this year, with over 150 wooden chalets selling unique gifts, treats and plenty of festive food!

Southbank Christmas Market, London
Until 24th December

We never celebrate Christmas without a stroll along the river, and this year’s Southbank Christmas Market is bigger and better than ever. With amusements, hand-crafted gifts and plenty of indulgent wintry treats on offer the Southbank is a must at this time of year.

Festive Fayre, York
Until 22nd December

There’s no prettier sight than York in December. This historic city comes alive with the sights of glittering lights and the scent of mulled wine. Take a wander down to The Shambles (aka Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley) and browse the gifts at the Festive Fayre.

Winter Wonderland, Hyde Park, London
Until 5th January

If you’re looking for totally over-the-top glitz and glamour with a sprinkling of Christmas magic thrown in Winter Wonderland will do the trick. Cosy up in alpine bars, take a ride on the amusements and soak up the atmosphere – it’s unlike any other!

Scottish Christmas Market, Edinburgh
Until 5th January

It’s an elegant kind of Christmas in the breathtaking city of Edinburgh, and we love their Scottish Christmas Market which focusses on the finest locally sourced food and drink – a priority close to our hearts at The London Kitchen.

Handmade Christmas, North Greenwich, London
Until 15th December

If you’re lacking gift inspiration head to North Greenwich for the Handmade Christmas fair in North Greenwich and gather up a few gifts that your nearest and dearest will cherish for many years to come – not like last year’s socks!
