WHERE DOES PISTACHIO COME FROM?

Pistachios have a rich history dating back thousands of years, originating from the Middle East and Central Asia. They were first cultivated in regions that are now Iran, Turkey, and Afghanistan, where they thrived in hot, dry climates. Today, some of the world’s highest-quality pistachios come from Iran, the United States (particularly California), Turkey, and Italy (notably in Sicily).

Iran remains one of the largest producers of pistachios, known for their deep flavour and vibrant green hue, while California pistachios dominate the global market due to their consistent quality and large size. Turkish pistachios (Antep variety) are prized for their intense, slightly sweet taste, making them perfect for desserts like baklava, while Sicilian pistachios (Bronte variety) are considered some of the finest in the world, with their bold colour and buttery texture, often used in high-end pastries and gelato.
